The Grec Festival of Barcelona devotes its look to Japan

Activity   From the 13th of June to the 1st of August, Barcelona gets surrounded by music, dance, theatre and all kinds of stage arts with a new edition of a festival that is already a cultural reference in south Europe. It is the Grec Festival of Barcelona, an opportunity to see the most outstanding actors, directors, choreographers, stage designers and musicians of the country but also to have a look at many pearls of the international scene.

Additional information   The Grec does not only host first level international proposals, but it also looks at the scenario of a specific country paying special attention. This year, Japan is the object of desire of a festival that will bring to Barcelona some of the most interesting names of the Japanese scenario. An example? On the 17th of June the tireless investigator of sounds Ryoji Ikeda will fill the Teatre Grec of Montjuďc with Spectra [Barcelona] test pattern [live set], a surprising installation that will open the 'Panorama Japan' of Grec and, at the same time, the Sónar Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art.

Panorama Japan, the Oriental look
It is the first time a festival devotesa global look to the panorama of stage arts of Japan, with 15 artistic proposals regarding Japanese topics. The majority come from this Asian country, but some also come from local directors. Within the theatre field, we can see The Lucid Camera, where the creator Shiro Takatani pays tribute to Roland Barthes and his essay on photography; Hot Pepper, Air Conditioner and The Farewell Speech, a proposal half way between theatre and dance of the director Toshiki Okada; the minifestival Fast Forwardtraerá a Barcelona los artistas y las propuestas más emergentes del momento: Maywa Denki, Masako Yasumoto, Stringraphy Ensemble y Fuyuki Yamakawa; and finally the show Nô, directed by Joan Ollé, about modern nō theatre by Yukio Mishima.

In dance, the choreographer Emmanuelle Huynh and the Ikebana master Seiho Okudaira, are brought together at the show Shinbaď, le vuelo de l'âme; the choreographer Ko Murobushi premieres for the first time in our country , Butō, a work about the links of butō and the human soul; the dancer and choreographer Saburo Teshigawara takes for the first time to Europe Mirror and Music, a reflection about the intangible character of music. And on this occasion, the western look is placed by Frederic Amat and Cesc Gelabert with Ki.
