Casa Asia
  9th Asia Festival

29/07/2010

The ninth edition of the Asia Festival, organised by Casa Asia, is held between the 16th and 26th of September in Barcelona. Its broad programme is addressed to all the public, with more than 30 Asian-origin shows and activities, and can be enjoyed in the heart of the city. During these days, Barcelona will approach the Asian continent through diverse disciplines such as theatre, dance, cinema, fashion, sport or gastronomy.

Kathakali theatre, straight from Kerala, south India, by the prestigious company Margi, will open this edition on the 16th of September at the National Library of Catalonia, which together with the Ateneu Barcelonés, MACBA, CCCB and plaza dels Àngels will make up the new scenarios of the Asia Festival.

The artistic programme will also include the performance of the percussion band Leonard Eto, former member of the Japanese band Kodo. Other highlighted artists will be the Chinese folk-rock band Shan Ren Band and the Pakistani star of bhangra pop Abrar-Ul-Haq.

As the closing event, on Sunday 26th of September, the Asia Festival presents the Day of Asia, a day that will give the Asian touch to the Mercè Fiestas by means of a multidisciplinary programme planned to discover Asia with the rest of the family for a day, in the plaza dels Àngels, the plaza Joan Coromines, CCCB and MACBA. The Asian communities will star the programme, made up of activities such as a traditional dress and custom parade or demonstration of games of the Asian tradition, without forgetting the deep gastronomic culture of Asia, to the rhythm of hip hop of young Philippine people or Asian calligraphy and cinema.

For two week ends, the festival will reinforce its profile as the only platform in the country devoted to stage and traditional arts of Asia and the Pacific, at the same time it will maintain the work lines begun in the last editions with the purpose to make the Asian communities take part, who are already present in our society.
