̉scar Pujol, Sanskritist and Director of Educational Programmes of Casa Asia has published Diccionari Sànscrit-Català (Sanskrit-Catalan Dictionary), the first great dictionary that links Sanskrit and a Romance language. This new dictionary includes encyclopaedic explanations, as well as a great number of entries. Sanskrit, sacred language and erudition of classic Hindu texts has a new vast and modern translation to Catalan for the first time.

This new dictionary translates and explains more than 50,000 words from Sanskrit to Catalan and it covers a wide thematic range such as mythology, religion or yoga. One of the particularities of this new dictionary is that it allows the consultation of articles without having to know devanagari (Sanskrit alphabet) thanks to an alphabetic index of Romanced entries. This dictionary also introduces encyclopaedic explanations in articles on Hinduism and Indian culture in general, which is ahead of strict linguistic interest of Sanskrit, as well as including, for the first time, double etymology (traditional Sanskrit grammar and western comparative linguistic etymology).

This dictionary is part of the collection of Bilingual Dictionaries of the Enciclopedia Catalana and it counts on the collaboration of Universitat de les Illes Balears, General Management of the Linguistic Policy of the Government of Illes Balears and the Department of Linguistic Policy of the Catalonian Autonomous Government.
