9th Asia Festival

The ninth edition of the Asia Festival, organised by Casa Asia, is held between the 16th and 26th of September in Barcelona. Its broad programme is addressed to all the public, with more than 30 Asian-origin shows and activities, and can be enjoyed in the heart of the city. During these days, Barcelona will approach the Asian continent through diverse disciplines such as theatre, dance, cinema, fashion, sport or gastronomy.

Exhibition "North Korea: The Weight of History"

The exhibition project dedicated to North Korea consists of images that are the result of the graphic products developed in this country, during the course of six decades, since the signing of the armistice in 1953 to the present.
Exhibition: "More to Love. Thinking about AIDS from Art"

This exhibition is the result of the collaboration of Casa Asia with the ArtAids Foundation to promote the reflection on AIDS from the area of visual arts. The works that have been brought together have been produced by the Dutch collector Han Nefkens, a resident of Barcelona. With the purpose to stimulate the intercultural dialogue, they have coexisted works proceeding from Thai artists and western artists
Exhibition of the Scale Model of the Spanish Pavilion for the Shanghai Universal Expo 2010

Owing to the exhibition that is opened at Palau Robert regarding the Spanish Pavilion for the Shanghai Universal Expo 2010, Casa Asia will install on the 1st of July a scale model of this pavilion on the ground floor of its headquarters.
Kurosawa Year 2010

The Kurosawa Year, which goes around 12 Spanish cities, and where 26 institutions and entities collaborate with the organization of commemorative activities, is made up of film series, seminars and lectures, a drawing exhibition by Kurosawa, the launch of a book about the film maker and other activities such as courses, demonstrations and theatre performances. In total, more than a hundred events devoted to this Japanese film maker.
Exhibition: "A Life in Batik. From the Sultan's Palace to the Villages of Java"

It consists of a collection of Indonesian batiks, all of which are unknown, and that recover the traditional techniques with vegetable dyes of the region of Jogjakarta. It includes more than 1400 drawings, some of which are inscribed in the millennial bas-relief of the Hindu Buddhist temples and on the walls of the mosques north of the island of Java. 
Exhibition: "Mirant des de fora"

With the purpose to raise awareness about the need to prevent and reflect on the feelings that people with HIV experience, the ArtAids Foundation presents "Mirant des de fora", a collective exhibition where twenty artists from Barcelona take part in nine spaces of the city. Casa Asia supports and collaborates with the project with the exhibition 'More to love'.
The report of the East - West Dialogue 2009 can already be consulted

The East - West Dialogue presents the report of its 6th edition carried out by Manuel Montobbio, Ambassador of Spain in Albania and Reporter of the Forum of the East-West Dialogue. Along with globalization, transnational migration is one of the key characteristics of our time and it has attracted growing concern and increased political attention both at international and local levels. The rising scale of international migration has increased social diversity in societies and communities in many parts of the world.
The film "Ip Man" wins the Orient Express - Casa Asia Award at the 49th Festival of Sitges

"Ip Man", the story of a part of the life of Bruce Lee shot by the Chinese director Yip Wai-shun, received the Orient Express - Casa Asia Award of the 49th edition of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival. This tribute to cinema of martial arts with furious choreographies, warm humour touches and winks to war drama has won the award to the best Asian production that the institution grants since it has collaborated with the Festival, in 2003.
Instituto Cervantes of New Delhi is opened

This Wednesday, 11th of November, the Instituto Cervantes of New Delhi was opened with the presence of the Prince and Princess of Asturias. It consists of the first Cervantes centre which is opened in India and whose Director is Óscar Pujol, translator and author of the only Sanskrit-Catalan dictionary which has been written and former Directro of Educational Proggrammes of Casa Asia, and who is currently preparing a Sanskrit-Spanish dictionary.
The writer Haruki Murakami visits Casa Asia

Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami, acclaimed by international critics as one of the most influential contemporary writers, visited Casa Asia on the 16th of March to explain the media the leitmotiv of his works. This writer, author of famous works such as "Tokyo Blues" or "Kafka on the Shore", explained his literary origins and revealed a few details of surrealism that come from his writings, as well as his passions and anxiety states.
Concert of Sri Gopal Das Baul Group and Natapala

Last 22nd of September at 9pm a little concert of Sri Gopal Das Baul Group and Natapala took place in the terrace of Casa Asia, music bands from India and Bangladesh. It is a small appetizer of the Asia Festival, which began on the 23rd of September at Plaza Reial of Barcelona with the concert by Cui Jian and continued on the 24th with an extense programme at the Parc de la Ciutadella.
The Photographer David Campos wins the Award LUX 2008 with a Feature on South Korea

The photographer href='http://www.davidcampos.net' class=enlace David Campos, a regular collaborator of Casa Asia, has won the prestigious Lux Gold Prize awarded by the Association of Professional Photographers of Spain (AFP) with the thematic feature on South Korea, entitled "Panmunjom Korean Border."
Call for the production of television documentaries between European and Asian televisions

Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) has created a collaboration programme between private and public broadcasters in Europe and Asia to produce a series of documentaries, in order to make known the Asian culture and society in Europe and vice versa.
The Orchestra and National Choirs of Spain will give a "Look to the East" next season

The title "Look to the East" will focus the next season 2007/2008 of the Orchestra and National Choirs of Spain (OCNE).
Cuadernos Oriente-Occidente: "Sobre revelaciones religiosas y filosofía" (East-West Diaries: "About religious revelations and philosophy") by Agustín Andreu

Casa Asia has published the first number of the series Cuadernos Oriente-Occidente (East-West Diaries), a publication that derives from the East-West Dialogue. In this first number Agustín Andreu presents an interpretation of the contents of several religious revelations, so civilizations can feel within the framework of a common humanity.
Instituto Cervantes opens the virtual space "China in Spain. Spain in China"

Owing to the opening in Beijing of a headquarters of Instituto Cervantes, the Cervantes Virtual Centre has created a new space in order to gather articles and links on China that analyse artistic, political and cultural relations between these two countries in the Modern Era.
Asia-Europe Cultural Information Portal - Culture360

Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) continues working on the production of the portal Culture360 that aims at serving as a virtual meeting space for members of the cultural and arts scenes of the two regions to meet, discuss, cooperate, collaborate and create.
Asha Miró collaborates with Casa Asia

She was born in a small Indian village, and put under care of the Church in a religious institution. When she was six years old, she found her new parents and she was adopted by a familiy from Barcelona, and since then, she has been living there.
Asha has been a music teacher, and right now she is a writer, she works for TV, and she organizes cultural events.
